Songs for Creative Revolution
Join four Bay Area singer-songwriters, Karen Joy Brown and Katie Phillips, former bandmates of Sonoma County’s beloved Bootleg Honeys, along with Bridget Boyle and Joni Davis for an afternoon of original songs that beautifully sing the unsayable, and unapologetically confront internal and external obstacles to personal and artistic freedom. The evening opens with a sixty-minute Songwriting Workshop that presents a principle of songwriting craft best practices demonstrated by concrete examples from popular music. A prompt-driven freewrite activity provides opportunity to put each highlighted principle into practice.
The second half of the evening opens into a Song Salon that invites up to eight songwriters to perform or present a recording of a completed or in-progress song for positive, craft-focused feedback from the workshop presenters. It’s not mandatory to participate in the workshop to perform/present a song or vice versa. This event is all ages, but may feature mature themes.
